Σφυρίδα
υπερκινητική και απρόβλεπτη...
Η σφυρίδα είναι η βασίλισσα των σερανίδων, μιας οικογένειας που περιλαμβάνει το ροφό, τη στήρα, την πίγκα και το λαβράκι.
Διακριτικά, μακριά από τη ζώνη διαμονής του ψαριού, ο δύτης συλλέγει στοιχεία για τη συμπεριφορά του είτε με καρτέρια στα μεσόνερα και το βυθό, είτε παρατηρώντας και αναλύοντας τις πληροφορίες της ψηφιακής τεχνολογίας του βυθομέτρου από τη βάρκα στην επιφάνεια.
Το να εξαπατήσουμε μια σφυρίδα στο ανοικτό νερό είναι εξίσου άτοπο με το να προφτάσουμε μια συναγρίδα! Η τεχνική που επιβάλλεται απέναντι σε αυτόν τον πολυτάλαντο κυνηγό συνδυάζει όλες τις γνώσεις του ψαροκυνηγού της Μεσογείου. Εδώ δεν υπάρχει μια εφαρμογή κάποιας σταθερής μεθόδου, όπως για παράδειγμα στο ροφό...Η τακτική που θα ακολουθήσουμε πρέπει να βασιστεί στη διακριτικότητα και τη γρηγοράδα. Εδώ απαιτείται η επιστράτευση όλης της πείρας και της έμπνευσης γιατί κάθε σφυρίδα είναι διαφορετική. Πρέπει να σκεφτούμε ότι είμαστε και εμείς οι ίδιοι ψάρια και επίσης ότι οι κινήσεις μας θα πρέπει να αντιστοιχούν σε αυτές των ψαριών!
Στη σύλληψη αυτή επιχειρώ διαγώνια κατάδυση με αθόρυβο "ξεκόλλημα" από την επιφάνεια, όπως ακριβώς αυτό πλέον διδάσκεται με επιτυχία στα εκπαιδευτικά πρακτικά μαθήματα ελεύθερης κατάδυσης.
Σκοπός μου είναι αρχικά να ανιχνεύσω το ψάρι που έχω δει προηγουμένως στην οθόνη του βυθομέτρου, κατά τη μετακίνησή μου με τη βάρκα πάνω από το κομμάτι.
Κρατώ το ψαροτούφεκο και με τα δύο χέρια, κολλημένο επάνω μου, σε διαγώνια θέση εμπρός από το στήθος. Το σώμα μου "πλανάται" κόντρα στο ρεύμα και σε ορθή γωνία σε σχέση με την κατεύθυνση του ηλίου. Τα μάτια μου κοιτούν εκεί όπου κατευθύνεται το σώμα "σκανάροντας" με ταχύτητα τις λεπτομέρειες του βυθού.
Η διαγώνια περιπλάνηση για ανίχνευση καταλήγει σε διαγώνιο "πλανάρισμα" αμέσως μόλις δω το ψάρι. Επιλέγω αυτήν την τεχνική προσέγγισης αυθόρμητα ως την καταλληλότερη για την περίσταση, ακόμα και εάν είναι ίσως η πιο αμφίβολη για το αποτέλεσμά της απέναντι σε μία νευρική σφυρίδα που κινείται παράλληλα προς τον αμμώδη βυθό με το σκληρό υπόστρωμα...
Απαραίτητη προϋπόθεση για τη σύλληψη αυτή θεωρώ την απόλυτη εξοικείωση με το μακρύ και δυνατό λαστιχοβόλο το οποίο έχει προηγουμένως "σεταριστεί" σωστά. Το γεγονός αυτό εγγυάται εξαιρετική ακρίβεια βολής και υψηλή διατρητική ικανότητα κατά την πρόσκρουση.
Το "πλανάρισμα", όταν γίνεται σωστά, καθησυχάζει το ψάρι και εξάπτει την περιέργειά του. Ο ψαροκυνηγός μπορεί να το επιχειρεί ακόμα και όταν έχει ένα κοντό ψαροτούφεκο στα χέρια. Πιθανότατα δεν θα προλάβει τη σφυρίδα "απ' έξω". Όταν όμως το ψάρι μπει στο θαλάμι θα είναι σίγουρα πολύ πιο ήρεμο, τις περισσότερες φορές μάλιστα ίσως βγάλει τη μουσούδα του έξω από το άνοιγμα παρατηρώντας περίεργο! Ο ψαροκυνηγός μπορεί να κατευθυνθεί, στο τέλος του "πλαναρίσματος", κατευθείαν στο θαλάμι της σφυρίδας, αιφνιδιάζοντας την...

The White Grouper
restless and unpredictable...
The White Grouper is the Queen of the Serranidae family, a family including the Dusky Grouper, the Goldblotch Grouper, the Mottled Grouper and the European Seabass.
Discreetly from a distance, the diver collects information about the behavior of the fish; either by stalking from midwater and the bottom, or by observing and analyzing the data from the digital sonar off the boat on the surface.
Catching a White Grouper in the open is as impossible a feat as attempting to catch a Dentex in open water! The technique required against this adversary combines all the knowledge of Mediterranean underwater fishing. Unlike the fixed methods used to hunt the Dusky grouper, in the case of the White Grouper, there is no standard hunting technique. Instead, the tactics used are based on subtlety and speed.
Hunting this fish will require that you call upon all your prior experience and creative inspiration because each White Grouper is different—you have to think and move like this fish in order to capture it….
In this attempt, I dive at a diagonal angle silently “freeing” myself from the surface” (a technique which is now successfully taught in Freediving training courses). My initial goal is to locate the fish detected earlier by the sonar.
I hold the speargun with both hands, pressing it against me and diagonally positioned in front of my chest. I "hover" against the current while at a right angle in relationship to the direction of the sun. Using my eyes I carefully scan the seabed...
Diagonal drifting while trying to detect the White Grouper results in me taking a diagonal "moving shot" with the speargun as soon as I see the fish. I spontaneously chose this technique as it was appropriate for this occasion (despite of the fact that this technique is questionable when hunting nervous White Grouper).
A prerequisite for this hunt is becoming familiar with the long speargun which has been previously adjusted and set up correctly. This guarantees excellent shooting accuracy and high piercing ability on impact.
The "moving shot", when executed correctly, reassures the fish without arousing suspicion. This technique can be attempted even with a short speargun. Although, it must be said that you probably won’t be able to catch a white grouper out in the open. Should the fish hide in the rock, it will be calmer (more often than not, these fish have a tendency to poke their snouts out as the curiously observe from safety). Under such circumstances, the spearfisherman can direct the fish at the end of the “moving shot” straight into the rock where it will be easier to catch.
